Alice C. Myers
April 25, 1909 - July 12, 2008
Alice C. Myers, 99, of Culver, passed away at 5:50AM on July 12, 2008 in
Miller's Merry Manor, Culver.
Alice was born on April 25, 1909 in Kewanna, IN, one of 8 children born to
Daniel and Sarah Jane (Donaldson) Kopp.  She attended and graduated from
the Kewanna School system.  Daniel was the owner of the hardware store in
Kewanna.
Alice's  passion for teaching was ignited when while still in school she was
asked to teach a lower class when a teacher was sick.  After graduation she was
one of the first women of her generation to attend Indiana University in
Bloomington, earning a Bachelor degree.  She then achieved her post graduate
studies from Wayne University.  After graduating, she returned to Kewanna to
begin teaching and after several years, she retired to marry her sweetheart,
Robert Myers, who was the son of Weston Henry Myers, the publisher of the
Kewanna Herald.  Together they had 2 children.  After Robert passed away in
1966, Alice moved to South Bend and worked for St. Joseph Co. As a clerk until
she retired at age 72.  Alice enjoyed going to rummage sales looking for that
special bargain.  She was a woman of deep faith and was a member of St.
Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Culver.
She is survived by her children - JoAnn (James) Walsh of Culver and Robert
(Kathie) Myers of Elkhart, 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2
great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:00AM
EDT at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Culver where friends may
share memories with the family one hour before the service at the
church.  Father Glenn Kohrman will officiate the service.  Burial will
follow in the Kewanna Citizens IOOF Cemetery in Kewanna, Indiana.
Memorials may be given in Alice's memory to St. Mary's of the
Lake Catholic Church.
